The character
Maverick is the veteran pilot who came back to teach the mission. Tom's character is command earned the hard way. He spent his first years at Concur as a Regional Sales Executive, closed a major L3 Technologies deal, and was pulled into what became a larger regulated-industries leadership path across GovCon, utilities, healthcare, and federal government.
After seventeen years at Concur and more than a decade managing teams, he has the posture of someone who has flown the route, taken the hits, and now feels responsible for getting others home. Maverick is not reckless. He is experienced enough to know where the danger is. He sees Invoice being underplayed in Enterprise despite its long history. He sees aerospace and defense customers misunderstanding what sits inside their systems. He sees reps carrying lonely, high-pressure cycles and knows what that does to a person.
Why he's in your corner
Maverick cares because he has seen the human moment when the system becomes unbearable. For him, that moment was Helen — overwhelmed by calls about approvals and payments, emotional in a demo because the pain was that real. That is the point of the mission: not software for software's sake, but relief for the person stuck absorbing the broken process.
He cares about the team because he has been in the seat. The pressure, the sleepless nights, the highs, the scar tissue — he knows all of it. His job now is to pass on enough judgment, protection, and practical wisdom to make the next mission better.
